Seminars with Professionals: An Effective Recruitment Strategy

Anu Gokhale (Illinois State University)

Although informatics is a growing field with vast applications in biomedicine, many highly talented females who are biology majors never investigate computing as an allied area of study. Prevailing labor projections regarding the shortage of computing professionals provide impetus for increasing bioinformatics majors. This project, funded by the National Science Foundation, targets college students and organizes seminars with professionals to inform students about growth areas like neuroinformatics. The goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention strategy to influence students to elect an informatics concentration.

Preferred presentation format: Poster
Topic: General neuroinformatics
