US visa requirements

INCF urges all Neuroinformatics 2011 participants to please make sure to prepare the necessary visa/ESTA documentation for attending a meeting in the US.

Visa Waiver Program

[As stated on the official US web site in November 2010] The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of 36 participating countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. Nationals of VWP countries must meet eligibility requirements to travel without a visa on VWP, and therefore, some travelers from VWP countries are not eligible to use the program. VWP travelers are required to have a valid authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to travel, are screened at the port of entry into the United States, and are enrolled in the Department of Homeland Security’s US-VISIT program.

Currently, 36 countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program, as shown below:

Visa to attend a scientific conference

Anyone applying for a visa to attend a scientific or technical conference, conduct research, participate in meetings, undertake post-graduate studies, or engage in employment in a scientific or technical field should submit the following documents at his/her visa interview:

  • A letter of invitation from the United States.
  • A current resume or CV indicating your educational background, work history, your current job responsibilities, field of expertise and research interest.
  • A list of your publications
Each of these required documents must be provided in English.
